Beatboxing teen from St. George's heading to national competition

Kaden White grew up in a musical household but he could never quite get the feel of the drums — piano was his thing.

But at the end of this month, the 18-year-old from St. George's on Newfoundland's southwest coast will be putting his vocal percussion on display at a national beatboxing competition.

New beatbox champ to be crowned in Toronto tonight

The best of the Canadian beatbox world will compete in Toronto Saturday night at the eighth annual Canadian Beatbox Championship.

The top 16 beatboxers from across Canada will take the stage at Lee's Palace.

Scott Jackson, the organizer and host, described the event to CBC Here and Now host Gill Deacon on Friday as "8 mile-style, but beatbox form."

Beatbox champion brings the 'Heat' for Beaverton students

BROCK TWP. — Amid a barrage of amazing off-the-cuff song covers, Canadian beatbox champion John ‘Heat’ Rouchotas had a simple message for students — you’ve got to put in work to be successful.

“Have you guys heard about the 10,000 Hour Rule? It means you’ve got to put in 10,000 hours of practice to truly be great at something,” the Markham-based musician said during his presentation to students at Thorah Central and Holy Family public schools this week.
